User Profile Plugin 1.8 - Lots of great new features!

After conducting a survey with the User Profile Plugin community in July, we are now pleased to finally present to you release 1.8. Thanks to everyone who participated in the survey, which led to  the most important new features. So what's new?

  • Display of additional information in the 'People Directory'
  • Macro "Profile List" is configurable
    • Detailed information of profiles can be displayed
    • Show profiles in the usual business card style, or as a table
  • Define the order of Profile fields
  • Simplified search for profile information
  • REST API
  • Confluence 5.2 compatible
  • Atlassian Design Guidelines implemented

Show additional information in People Directory

Until now, the People Directory in Confluence only displayed the mandatory fields of a profile. You can now determine what the important information is for your company in the People Directory using the "custom mode". This means that all fields are shown which have been set by the global administration in "custom mode".

Macro "Profile List" configurable

Previously, all profiles that were displayed with Macro "Profiles List" showed the same information as the macro "Enhanced Profile" in the "minimal" mode. We have introduced two changes in version 1.8. The first is, you have the option of selecting the different profile fields which may be displayed. The second change concerns the view of the profiles on the wiki: you may choose the usual business card style, or a table. This gives you the opportunity to implement clear tables in wiki pages, such as a telephone or birthday lists.

Define order of Profile fields

Finally, administrators may now determine the order of profile fields. For easier implementation in choosing your own order, there are now only two areas: "Personal" and "Company". Of course, the mandatory fields are still in first place.

Simplified search for profile Information

In searching for profile data before, you always had to enter the "Default Title" (usually English) in the search field to obtain the desired information. In the configuration of user profile elements you always have a second title (e.g. "German Title"). Now however, you can use this title using in your own language.

For example, you can make a search for all employees whose birthday is in April. Just type in the search field Birthday:April (in your language). Or, say you want a list of all colleagues from the marketing department. Then search for Department:Marketing.

BUT PLEASE NOTE: this is case-sensitive!

REST API

And now there is great news for all developers: The User Profile Plugin has received a REST API! Concerning this feature, our architect and developer in the Atlassian team, Tino Winkler, has a few words to say:

Until now, access to the information of the User Profile Plugin was only possible via the raw data from the database. This workaround was quite error-prone and unsupported. With the new release, these problems are a thing of the past. The REST API provides read access to all relevant data of the Plugin:

  • The profile data: which information did the users provide in their profile.
  • The profile configuration: How did the administrator configure the profile elements.

See the developer guide for further details.

On top of all these new features ,the User Profile Plugin is now compatible with Confluence version 5.2. In addition to that, our developers have made some changes in appearance in  accordance with Atlassian Design Guidelines.

Of course we could not implement all requests, such as the synchronization of profile pictures from your user directory in Confluence. But this is all the more reason to look forward to the next release J
