Update the App Package

  1. Navigate to the (tenant or site collection) App catalog where you wan't to update the app package. 
  2. Add the solution file .sppkg via drag & drop or via the upload dialog provided by SharePoint. Overwrite the existing file, if necessary. 
  3. A dialog comes up. Confirm by clicking the "Deploy" button.

The dialog informs you that the app needs certain permissions in order to work properly. These permissions must be approved separately.

If you already approved the permissions after installation you don't have to do anything here. Otherwise you can find more information in chapter Approve permissions of the app.

After the upload you can verify the version of the installed app-package (your version can differ from the screenshot).

Check whether the app package is already checked in. If not, please follow the instructions below.

Check in the app package

  1. Click on the three horizontal dots besides the app package name. 
  2. Then click on the three horizontal dots in the upcoming window.
  3. Navigate to "Advanced" and then select "Check In".

A dialog opens. Click "OK".

Now the app is checked in.

Update the App in the Site Collection

Prerequisites

  • Update of the app-package was succesfull
  • Update the app instance on the site collection where you use the product

Navigate to the site collection where you have placed the Space Navigator webpart on.

Unfortunately this option is currently only available in the classic experience. If you need help switching to classic experience go to chapter Switch to classic experience.

Go to Site contents of your site collection and navigate to the Space Navigator App. Click on the three horizontal dots to open the app actions. Click on the button "About"

Now you can see a hint that a new version of the app is available. To update the app instance on this site collection you have just to click on "GET IT"

This process will take some time since the structures to hold the metadata will be updated in the site collection.

Switch to Classic Experience

If you cannot find the app details page using the modern experience you can temporary switch to the classic experience to open the app details.

Go to the Site contents of your site collection and navigate to the Space Navigator App. Open the app actions of the Space Navigator in the site and click on "Remove".

We do not remove the app here. This is just the shortest way to switch the view.

Now click on "Return to classic SharePoint" to switch to the classic experience.

You are now using the classic experience. Proceed on "Update the App in the site collection"  to update the app instance.

Set Permissions for Pin/Unpin Spaces 

FROM VERSION 1.1

After upgrading from version 1.0 to 1.1 or higher also apply the instructions from Configure Permissions (v 1.1) > Set Permissions for Pin/Unpin Spaces. This is required to make it possible for users to pin and unpin spaces.
