High Level Architecture (Latest Server/DC)

This page provides an overview of the SharePoint Connector for Confluence and the components it interacts with. The app can be linked to a single instance of either SharePoint Online or SharePoint On-Premises.

SharePoint Online

All communication between Confluence and SharePoint is done by the client of the end user (i.e. browser). Direct communication between these two servers is not necessary.

To access the SharePoint Online REST API, the SharePoint Connector must be registered as application in Azure Active Directory. 

SharePoint on-premise

The whole communication between Confluence and SharePoint is done by the client of the end user (i.e. browser). Direct communication between these two servers is not necessary.

Office Online Server is required in order to render Office documents to appear as a preview on Confluence pages.
