Physik Instrumente Used Metadata to Breathe New Life into Their Corporate Intranet

When Physik Instrumente - a leading manufacturer of nanopositioning technology - got started with Confluence, the company homepage was flooded with news regardless of the audience references, language, location or role. With headquarters in Karlsruhe, Germany, and multiple locations across Europe, America, and Asia, you can see why this was an issue.

Their issue?

The company‘s Head of Collaboration and Intranet wanted a way to create personalized news feeds based on an employee’s language, location, and role.

How did they use Metadata for Confluence?

They used Metadata for Confluence to ensure that all articles are automatically delivered to the right audiences when they are published.

Metadata fields can be prepared and assigned to the entire wiki, selected spaces or individual templates. The queried fields can be predefined as a dropdown or as radio buttons. Predefined fields ensure the consistent spelling of metadata throughout the wiki, eliminating all the headaches associated with free text entries. So, when employees visit the intranet homepage, they only see news that is relevant to their location and role.

The results.

Now, an employee based at Karlsruhe can see that the company party at headquarters is imminent, while a sales employee in Singapore would not. Isn’t that great?!
