Confluence 5.7.1
Scenario
As soon as you connect a user directory with Read Only or Read Only (with local groups) permission, the edit profile button will disappear in your profile. This behaviour will also happen, if you do not have User Profiles for Confluence installed
Fix
Upgrade to at least Confluence 5.7.3
