Assign a Content Category and Metadata to an existing page

In case you already have an existing page in Confluence which you want to assign to a newly created Content Category, you can do so easily by following the steps described in the next sections.

If you want to assign another Content Category to a page that already has one assigned, please have a look at the Assign a different Content Category to a page section.

Select Content Category

To start, navigate to the page you want to connect to a Content Category. On the view mode of this page select the item “Assign Content Category” from its action menu.

Since Content Categories are globally available the opened dialog will allow you to choose from all existing Categories. To find the one you are looking for quickly, you can also type its name.

After making your choice, continue with a click on the “Next” button.

Provide Metadata

The dialog will now show a form with all the Metadata fields belonging to the selected Content Category. Use it to provide the Metadata values.

Finalize Content Category assignment

With a click on the “Save” button the data will be stored and the page will now belong to the selected Content Category. This will be visualized with a small icon and the name of the assigned Category at the top of the page.

You can use this icon to view and edit the Metadata.

Assign a different Content Category to a page

At the moment there is no direct way to assign a different Content Category to a page that is already assigned to a Content Category. As a workaround, you have to Remove a Content Category and Metadata from a page first. Afterward, you can again assign any Content Category to the page.
